When it comes to summer beauty, if you’re like me, you want products that do the job efficiently and easily. So there’s less fussing in front of the mirror and more time to actually enjoy the season. The products below all fit the bill. Whether fighting sun, heat, oily skin flare-ups or flip-flop feet; they get it done in inventive ways. Take a smart approach to this season with these four ingenious summer beauty products:
1. Clean & dirty.
One of the most unusual facial cleaners I’ve come across is GlamGlow PowerCleanse Daily Dual Cleanser. This product consists of separately stored mud and oil that turn into a foaming lather when mixed in your hand. Why would you clean your face with a concoction of mud and oil, you ask? The people at GlamGlow say the cleansing oil gently dissolves makeup and the clay helps detoxify skin.
While it’s pricey, retailing for $43 Cdn ($39 US), I like that it’s customizable. Those with drier or more mature skin can increase the ratio of oil to mud when mixing. And, always welcome, PowerCleanse is made without parabens, phthalates or sulfates.
2. Wet wizard.
The word “innovative” is thrown around in the beauty world, when often the only innovation is that the makers have changed their blue shampoo bottle to green. But in the case of Shiseido Ultra Sun Protection Lotion SPF 50+ WetForce, the descriptor fits.
What Shiseido refers to as “WetForce” is a technology the company has developed that actually makes sunscreen more effective when it interacts with moisture. How does it work? When skin gets wet, the minerals in water strengthen the UV-protective veil. So whether you’re splashing in the pool or sweating up a storm, this SPF has you covered.
And as we all know by now, when it comes to preventing skin cancer and staying (relatively) young-looking, sunscreen is essential. One note: reapply after swimming strenuously or towelling off.
3. Tootsie treat.
I first came across Saje Natural Wellness Tingle Mint Invigorating Foot & Body Lotion when writing an article on essential gym-bag products. And with its essential oils of peppermint, spearmint, tea tree and rosemary, this product certainly soothes and refreshes post-workout legs and feet.
But this season, what I’ve really come to appreciate about the lotion is how the aloe vera, and shea and mango butters moisturize dry summer feet. Apply before bedtime and you’ll wake up with feet that feel almost as soft as post pedicure.
If you’re unfamiliar with Saje (pronounced “sage”) Natural Wellness, I’d encourage you to check them out. Based in British Columbia, with stores across Canada, it’s an all-natural line that does a rare thing: offering high-quality products made with pure ingredients at reasonable prices. The Tingle Mint Invigorating Foot & Body Lotion, for example, is $12.95 Cdn for 100 ml.
4. Cool it!
Summer is my fave season, but there are times when things can get a little too heated. Like, say, being squashed on a jammed bus during rush hour. Or caught in your cubicle when the A/C goes on the fritz as the mercury spikes.
To combat that wilted feeling, spritz some Cool Spray Refreshing Mist, another product from Saje Natural Wellness. Made with purified water, and essential oils of peppermint, eucalyptus and basil, this spray helps perk you up when applied to the face, neck or body.
I hope these ingenious summer beauty products help solve any hot-weather beauty dilemmas.
